Overfishing: The term generally means that the fishing effort being exerted on the stock is “too high”.


2. Notes on overfishing

In many fisheries fora the term is used when F has been estimated to be above a limit biological reference point that is used as the signpost that defines “overfishing”. Usage of the term is not limited to “growth overfishing” situations; it can also pertain to recruitment overfishing and to other types of overfishing. As with the term Overfished, ICCAT usage of “overfishing” may not always be con- sistent. (Mace 1998)
