DEFINITION As regards fish with a forked caudal fin, it is the distance from the tip of the snout (mouth) to the fork of the caudal fin, for heterocercal or homocercal shaped caudal fins. It is measured from the most anterior part of the head to the posterior end of the middle caudal rays (deepest point of the notch in the tail fin)
