Fishing activity - meaning and illustration

'fishing activity' means searching for fish, shooting, setting, towing, hauling of a fishing gear, taking catch on board, transhipping, retaining on board, processing on board, transferring, caging, fattening and landing of fish and fishery products;

fishing activity means the activity of taking fish, including—

• (a)  searching for fish, or
• (b)  any activity that can reasonably be expected to result in the locating, aggregating or taking of fish, or
• (c)  carrying fish by boat from the place where they are taken to the place where they are to be landed.

fishing activity means—

• (a)taking fish; or
• (b)purchasing, selling, possessing or using fishing apparatus regulated under a regulated fishing apparatus declaration.

fishing activity means—

• (a)taking, possessing or using fisheries resources; or
• (b)possessing or using fishing apparatus or aquaculture furniture.

“fishing operations” includes fishing, supply of provisions to fishing vessels, and the handling and processing of fish up to the time it is first landed;

 “fishing related activity” means any activity in support of, or in preparation for, fishing including the—
(a) transshipping of fish to or from any vessel;
(b) landing, packaging, processing, handling or transporting of fish that have not been previously landed at port ;
(c) provision of personnel, fuel, gear and other supplies at sea or performing other activities in support of fishing operations;
(d) exporting fish or fish products from the country; and
(e) attempting or preparing to do any of the above;

‘‘related activities’’ include—
(a) storing, buying, selling, transshipping, processing or transporting of fish or any fish product taken from South African waters up to the time it is first landed or in the course of high seas fishing;
(b) on-shore storing, buying, selling or processing of fish or any fish product from the time it is first landed;
(c) refuelling or supplying fishing vessels, selling or supplying fishing equipment or performing any other act in support of fishing; 
(d) exporting and importing fish or any fish product; or
(e) engaging in the business of providing agency, consultancy or other similar services for and in relation to fishing or a related activity;
