Beach seine: type of seine operated from land, which are generally used in shallow waters, near the shore; the bottom and surface act as natural barriers which prevent the fish from escaping from the area enclosed by the net. A distinction is made between beach seines with a bag and beach seines without a bag; the latter do have, however, a central part with smaller meshes and more slack, which retains the fish caught
